What if I only want one or two brands. Is that possible and would you charge me less? Back to top

No, the Assist service is charged at a flat-fee, regardless of the number of applications, which makes it more affordable and cost-effective than our previous offering.

Why do I pay for support and software upgrades when I have to take my vehicle to the dealer because Autologic doesn't have the latest files? Back to top

The automotive industry is evolving rapidly, especially in North America and Europe, with manufacturers increasing the levels of technology within vehicles as well as diversifying ranges and increasing model variants. It is not unusual for modern cars to contain more than 40 ECUs, potentially containing up to 100,000,000 lines of software. Given this level of complexity, it’s reassuring that manufacturers must now make data available to independent repairers to enable the programing of vehicles via Pass-Thru, as directed by the Right to Repair Legislation in the US and the Euro5 across Europe.

Your support covers new chassis releases and data updates to continually enhance your diagnostic capability. In addition, you have real-time access to our Fault 2 Fix Vehicle Diagnostic Support Service, including Pass-Thru Support, which, on completion of installation, will provide you access to the OE data files made available from the manufacturer.

As an example; BMW FSC codes were previously for the provision of infotainment systems, but the functionality has been extended to include more elements of the vehicle. Access to FSC codes is only available from BMW and made available to users of their Pass-Thru service to accurately and securely complete the programming routine.

We strongly recommend the adoption of Pass-Thru for all our customers undertaking programming functions and will provide the support required to facilitate this effort.

Why do I pay to renew each year when Autologic is three-plus years behind in chassis development and competitors of Autologic are more current on chassis and are a fraction of the cost? Back to top

Unlike our competitors, Autologic provides real-time access to our dealer-trained master technicians to expedite your fix resolution process. By identifying your fix processes transparently to your customers, you can invoice for the diagnostic service, including the outsourcing of technical advice. This unique global service is included within your annual subscription.

Statistically, the majority of aftermarket repairs are for vehicles over a three-year period, therefore, Autologic places emphasis on providing and improving the depth of data within this segment. Autologic constantly assesses the vehicle model case submissions from our customers and releases new chassis based on the most popular.

In 2015, there were five new chassis releases, and through an improved development process implemented at the start of the year, we have already released another five new chassis by June 2016.

There are many diagnostic products on the market that advertise a wide range of vehicles covered, yet the depth of functionality is often shallow

What are the benefits of remaining an Autologic customer? Back to top

Autologic focuses on delivering a comprehensive, cloud-based, vehicle-connected vehicle diagnostics support service, especially for the most complex European vehicles. This service enhances ‘fault-to-fix’ time, thereby maximizing repair bay throughput and delivering the greatest value to your business. Autologic has more than 15 years of experience in vehicle diagnostic support and possesses brand specialist dealer trained master technicians who are on hand to get you from fault-to-fix, fast. Times are changing, but Autologic will continue to be the pioneers in supporting the aftermarket to maintain its industry leadership position. There is no other company in our industry that can match the Autologic Assist stats:

From the more than 300,000 cases submitted by Autologic customers in the past 12 months worldwide, the Assist team of 100+ master technicians providing vehicle diagnostic support:

  • Received nearly 60,000 cases displaying fault codes from AssistPlus, of which one in three were unique (totaling 15,000+ individual fault codes identified)
  • Repaired more than 1,200 different automobile models
  • Successfully fixed 97.5% of all cases submitted
  • Upgraded over one third of customers to the latest AssistPlus device

What is Autologic's Fault 2 Fix Vehicle Diagnostic Support service? Back to top

Our long running Fault 2 Fix Vehicle Diagnostic Support service is staffed by dealer-trained Master Technicians, who are there to assist you with diagnosing and fixing problematic cars. Contact these master technicians direct from your AssistPlus device, online or even from your mobile device and get the support you need to fix cars faster and more profitably. This is what makes Assist the only vehicle connected support service in the world.

What happens if I don't renew my support contract? Back to top

If you don’t renew your subscription, you can still use the device for diagnostic functions, but you will no longer have access to new data releases, the Autologic website user area, or our world renowned, brand specialist master technicians that comprise our Fault 2 Fix Vehicle Diagnostic Support team. The majority of our customers find access to our vehicle diagnostic support team to be perhaps the most important element of getting them from fault to fix fast. If you are interested in remaining with Autologic just for the Assist Vehicle Diagnostic Support Service, then please contact us.

Why can't I get in touch with Master Technicians for Porsche? Back to top

Autologic provides worldwide support -- including for Porsche – despite the fact that this is no longer a brand supported by our current AssistPlus device. We receive less than 15 Porsche requests each day compared with more than 300 daily BMW requests and this makes it inefficient to employ Porsche specialists in each region. Our Porsche Master Technician is based in the UK and while we appreciate that this is not ideal for our international customers due to the time difference, we welcome cases submitted via the AssistPortal, or via the website through AssistOnline. Our Master Technician will respond as soon as possible

Why have you omitted programming from the AssistPlus device? Back to top

Increasingly, programming is being done using the OEM’s own online Pass-Thru tools (J2534, Euro5, etc.) This process means that the whole car is reprogrammed to an agreed and controlled standard, which the OEM will support. As we get closer to 2017, when all OEMs will have to comply with legislation in the EU and in the USA and provide access to programming capability to all aftermarket workshops in these regions, all programming will be done via Pass-Thru to ensure accuracy, security and safety.

Why should I upgrade? Back to top

AssistPlus offers you a variety of new features over the old Blue Box, here are 3 additions:

  • Fully integrated service and device: it is not just a tool, or a support service, or easy access to vehicle repair information. It’s all of this combined, in one place, for the first time.
  • It is far more advanced; software upgrades and improvements to our wireless connectivity allow seamless connections to your own Wi-Fi networks and much faster application speeds. It has a battery to help you work on cars while cranking the engine, or with a dead battery and to preserve data if there is a power cut.
  • Use TWO applications at once: Innovative split-screen interface allows you to have two different application screens open at once, which could mean having a video recording on the device, alongside the live diagnostics, or internet access via our custom browser to YouTube, Alldata, Autodata, Mitchel, Identifix etc.

Why won’t my AssistPlus turn on? Back to top

The unit is turned on by briefly pressing the power button on the front panel until the LED on the front panel illuminates
AssistPlus has three forms of power:

  1. External supply, Internal Battery, OBD power.
  2. The internal battery will only charge with an external supply, OBD does not charge the battery
  3. The internal battery will only discharge when the external power supply is absent, and the OBD supplies less than 10V to the AssistPlus device.

If your unit is not turning on:

  1. Check the fuse is securely located in the top panel. Without this, the battery will not function in the AssistPlus.
  2. Check the power supply is securely connected. Without a secure connection, the internal battery will not charge and the unit will not power on.
  3. Check the OBD has > 10V supplied between pins 4 and 16

How long does the battery last? Back to top

The battery lasts for around 2 hours from a full charge. When it is connected to a car, AssistPlus is powered by the car battery but not charged by it. This means you will not lose any battery charge on the device and removes the risk of draining the car battery (if the car is powering it, the device will be draining the car battery and a battery support system should be used).

Does the AssistPlus charge while it is connected to a car? Back to top

J2534 and Pass-Thru

Does my AssistPlus device give me access to Pass-Thru? Back to top

No. We provide Guided Pass Through support and can recommend a compatible J2534 device based on your requirements.

What is Pass-Thru? Back to top

J2534, also known as Pass-Thru, ensures that independent repair shops can work on modern cars and have cost-effective access to information and ECU programming downloads from vehicle manufacturers when required.
SAE J2534 is a communications standard adopted by vehicle manufacturers that enables compliant devices to reprogram vehicle ECUs. European and US legislation requires vehicle manufacturers to make vehicles, diagnostic and reprogramming applications that are compatible with J2534 devices.

Most modern cars can now be reprogrammed using the J2534 standard. Our products and services enable this without the need for separate, expensive OE tools for each brand.

Blue Box

Why have you moved away from Blue Box? Back to top

Rapid improvements in technology dictate a need to move on from the trusted mechanics of old which have a tough time resolving issues surrounding the mysteries that are ‘mobile computers’. They need to get up-to-speed with complex wiring, multiple ECUs and the finite intelligence that is kept under lock and key within vehicle manufacturers. While the Blue Box helped to create the success that Autologic enjoys today our next generation AssistPlus devices will lead the way for technological advancement providing a Fault to Fix, Fast solution for our customers.

Blue Box continued support statement

You used to offer a tool called the Blue Box. What happened to that? Is it being discontinued? Back to top

The Blue Box was launched 10 years ago. Much of the technology in the box, including processors, is now obsolete. How many people are still using technology from a decade ago? We moved to a Windows platform to ensure that the hardware is compatible with modern software, and is future-proofed for another technical iteration.

While the legacy tool is still utilized by some customers, we provide a continued level of support from our technicians, guiding users to a resolution and we also ensure that technical updates are available via the website.

Given that we have moved to cloud based technology, which has greater scalability, it is inevitable that the Blue Box will not have the functionality, capabilities and features of the current devices, so it will gradually lose its ability to function at optimum levels. For this reason, we no longer market this tool, and anticipate that users will naturally upgrade to our revolutionary, integrated Assist solution (which is four times faster than the legacy tool) over the coming months.

Is the Blue Box still supported? Back to top

We are continuing to support Blue Box customers for updates to the existing software installed. However, we no longer sell new software packages for Blue Box tool users. Customers wishing to add new brands to their Autologic should contact us to discuss the AssistPlus options available to them.

Blue Box Continued Support Statement

Are you asking customers to migrate to this new tool? Back to top

It’s the customer’s choice. Naturally, we are suggesting migration since our new Assist solution boasts many more features including access to six European brands, on demand Tech Support, guided J2534 Pass Through and much more. As with most technologies, if you don’t move forward, there is the potential of negative impact on your business.

Why have you not included programming on the AssistPlus? Back to top

Increasingly, programming is being done using the OEM’s own Pass Through (J2534, Euro5, etc.) online tools. This process means that the whole car is reprogrammed to an agreed and controlled standard, which the OEM will support. As we get closer to 2017, when all OEMs will have to comply with legislation in the EU and in the USA and provide access to programming capability to all aftermarket workshop in these regions, all programming will be done this way.

What can I do on the new AssistPlus tool that I couldn’t on the old Blue Box tool? Back to top

The new tool is a powerful multifunction touchscreen device. Where the Blue box offered only diagnostics, the AssistPlus is a fully connected device. With Web browsing, file storage, cloud link, video playing and capture, photo capture and more the AssistPlus empowers technicians in the workshop to do more in less time.

The AssistPlus is a stand-alone product, meaning software updates are available over the air (OTA) without connecting to another computer. It runs the latest 64bit operating system, giving scope for further feature improvements in the future, and USB expansion to further enhance what you can do on the tool.

You can print files straight from the tool to your connected printer and share files via email. A battery is built into the device, reducing the time spent waiting for boot up between jobs, plus the AssistPlus can still draw power from the vehicle OBD, or mains, prolonging the battery life even more.

The AssistPlus is the best way to access the Assist support service.

  • With the AssistPortal you can request support straight from the AssistPlus without leaving the car.
  • You can send files and photos to the Assist support centre to allow us to help you more efficiently.
  • And with AssistRescue, the Autologic Assist Master Technicians can help you directly on your tool.

Why is this new AssistPlus tool different? What makes it a better option than the Blue Box? Back to top

It meets customer’s expectations in terms of connecting at all times, via the internet, to obtain the latest information, quickly and easily.

The most substantial evolution is to cloud-connection. We are dealing with complex electronics within recent autos, representative of the modern technological world in which we live. Autologic is simply moving with the times, integrating today’s current technology which, where possible, will become scalable in the future. This has enabled the device to deliver next generation technology and a multitude of new functionality options and features that were not previously available on legacy tools.

Ultimately, this means that we can deliver (over the air) real-time software and technical updates, provide two-way access to captured diagnostic reports, fault codes and images. The Assist Portal function allows technicians to log a case in using the device, and then, the information is relayed to the relevant manufacturer-trained Autologic tech support specialist who calls the repair shop, pre-prepared with appreciation resolution of the issue. This saves the technician time by fast-tracking to a resolution, through the provision of on-demand support.

Autologic Assist boasts access to third-party databases and sharing of data, pictures and videos, all on an expandable platform. The Assist device runs on the Window 8 platform with integrated web browser, so the technician can carry out diagnostics, use the split screen to check technical documents, or view our ‘how to’ videos available on YouTube.

Autologic are leaders in communicating the drive towards Pass Thru across Europe and the US.  Assisted Pass Thru helps repair shops become familiar with the process, with guidance from the Autologic tech team and substantial information available on the device.

It’s the first and only fully integrated automotive diagnostics support solution of its kind because it combines key elements that address the ever-increasing complexity involved in diagnosing and repairing automobiles today, especially challenges associated with European vehicles.

The Autologic Assist suite of capabilities delivers:

  • Online third-party vehicle data resources
  • Superior diagnostic functionality
  • Real-time access to a team of master technicians
  • Multi-faceted, split-screen, cloud-connected device

Why the Company’s change in product direction? Back to top

The technical landscape demands change to keep pace with the times – it’s that simple.

We haven’t changed our principle provisions; rather, we’ve followed the change of the needs of a generation, one that demands fast access to information via rapid internet connectivity. Therefore, we are developing devices and software that meet today’s needs.

While technology advances, our unparalleled world renowned tech support team remains the constant.  We continue to ensure ongoing training, knowledge and development for our tech support specialists.

The Right to Repair Act is an industry game-changer. As all manufacturers move towards web-based delivery of programming, we are positioning the Company to be the market leader in offering J2534 tech support.

Are data updates still available for legacy devices? Back to top

Yes. Data updates and new chassis releases, developed for the current AssistPlus device, are made available for all legacy device customers with a valid subscription.

Why is my Blue Box telling me I have a limited number of uses before it must connect with Autolink? Back to top

Autolink, your online configuration platform, has now been updated for all legacy devices, without which, updates would have been challenging. To ensure that your Autologic device runs at its optimal capability, we have introduced periodic messages to the device reminding you to connect to Autolink to ensure that you are running the latest software versions.

This ensures that you have the most up–to-date and stable software installed on your device prior to performing any procedure on a vehicle, which reduces potential failures. Given this, it is essential that you connect your device to Autolink at regular intervals, or when prompted to do so. This communication application, to bring updates and messaging directly to your device, is in line with the more technically advanced AssistPlus device.

If I don't renew my subscription, will you kill my Blue Box device? Back to top

No. However, there will be no access to new data or new chassis. All the existing diagnostic functionality will remain and while the hardware will stay operational, it may become increasingly outdated due to constant technological advances. This is why we strongly recommend that customers upgrade to the latest AssistPlus device, which has all of the functionality of the BlueBox (excluding programming), plus the benefits of our cloud-based, vehicle-connected, state-of-the-art technology.

If I don't renew support on the Blue Box and it tells me to connect to Autolink to validate, will I still be able to use the diagnostic software? Back to top

Yes. Connecting to Autolink will validate the unit, enabling you to continue diagnostics using existing data. As we are unable to differentiate the unit by subscription validity, if you are out of contract, you will still be required to connect to Autolink following approximately 40 on/off cycles. This ensures that you can continue to use the device for diagnostics.

However, access to hardware and software support for your Blue Box will cease. You will no longer have the ability to download data updates, User Files or vehicle-specific software improvements. As a result, your Autologic device will not keep pace with the release of data and chassis updates. You will also no longer be entitled to obtain help from our vehicle diagnostic support team comprised of 100+ dealer-trained master technicians.

Why did you stop selling the Blue Box?

Is the Blue Box going to stop being supported? If so, how long until it becomes a "brick"? Back to top

The automotive industry is evolving rapidly, with manufacturers increasing the levels of technology within vehicles, diversifying ranges and increasing model variants. It is not unusual for modern cars to contain more than 40 ECUs, potentially containing up to 100,000,000 lines of software. Given this level of complexity and the protocols now used by manufacturers, the validation of programming files and the delivery of new flash file updates can only securely and accurately be delivered via manufacturer applications. These applications are available via Pass-Thru and DoIP (for 2017 model year vehicles) and Autologic will continue to provide products and services to accommodate the changing landscape of the aftermarket.

Autologic Diagnostics Ltd

Is Autologic being sued? Back to top

No.

Why are so many customers complaining on forums? Back to top

Autologic was the first and only diagnostics offering to include programming functionality. When vehicles generally had a limited number of ECUs this was a highly technical service to provide but was achievable, thanks to the dedication of the Autologic software team. As technology advances, products have become far more complex, including automobiles. Vehicle manufacturers have increased the levels of technology within vehicles, diversifying ranges and increasing model variants. It is not unusual for modern cars to contain more than 40 ECUs with potentially containing up to 100,000,000 lines of software. Given this level of complexity and the protocols now used by manufacturers, it is impossible to continue this service securely.

People don’t like change! They will voice their opinions, mostly negative, but they cannot stop the progression of technology. They use forums and social media because they are easy to access and their words spread further more rapidly (interesting as this is technological progression!).

However, some customers appreciate that no other company produced a competitive device or service offering to match Autologic and this is still true today.
